RESOLUTION NO. 502
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ARROYO GRANDE IN SUPPORT OF THE CAL POLY
MERCY BOWL FOOTBALL GAME.
WHEREAS, an airplane carrying the Cal Poly football team
crashed on take-off from the Toledo, Ohio airport last October 29,
killing 17 Cal Poly students, 5 adults and injuring many more; and
WHEREAS, as a direct:'result of this tragedy, more than a
score persons have been left without adequate financial means and
in many cases, without sufficient funds to pay for extensive
continuing medical expenses; and
WHEREAS, litigation has not yet provided relief and gives no
indication of doing so; and
WHEREAS, the California Collegiate Athletic Association and
the Los Angeles Coliseum Commission are jointly sponsoring a benefit
football contest between the Bowling Green college team from Ohio
and the champion of the CCAA conference this fall, such game to
be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, November 23, 1961 at the Coliseum;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Arroyo Grande as follows:
That the community give its full support: to this event and
that all individuals who can possibly arrange to do so attend the
Mercy Bowl football game in Los Angeles.
Your Council urges your support for this worthy cause.
On motion of Councilman Hartwig , seconded by
Councilman Jacobs , and by the following roll call
vote, to-wit:
AYES: Mayor Burt, Councilmen Lee, Pence, Jacobs, Hartwig
NOES: None
ABSENT : None
the foregoing Resolution was adopted this lOth day of October,
1961.
