WHEREAS . during the past several years, it has been the practice in most California counties for chamber of commerce committees representing all segments of said counties to assist the California Highway Commission by working with the local district of the division of highways in formu- lating a highway program for improvements within the respective counties; and WHEREAS, San Luis Obispo County has served as a good example of such cooperative effort and has worked closely with the local district and citizen groups from all parts of the County in developing a practical program, based on financial feasibility and comparative needs; and' WHEREAS , on May 25, 1961, the combined highway committees of San Luis Obispo County, under the chairmanship of Ed Atkinson, met with State chamber of commerce and state highway officials in formulating a program for this year and at that time transmitted this set of recommendations to the California Highway Commission through the State Chamber of Commerce; ! and WHEREAS, this City Council has confidence that such priorities were established with due regard to the needs and desires of all segments of the county and also after clearing with the district headquarters of the division of highways to determine feasibility; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arroyo Grande that the program as submitted to the Highway Commission be officially endorsed and the Commission be urged to oppose any move by individual interests within the County to place any new projects ahead of those contained in the highway committee program or assign higher prior- ities than recommended in said program. Specific reference is made to Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 71 dated May 30, 1961 as amended in the Assembly June 13, 1961, which resolution we feel would have an adverse effect on the total county highway program if implemented by the Commission. )"> J ;A. ..
