ORDINANCE NO. 46 C.S. .
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE AMENDING
SECTIONS 1 AND 2 OF CHAPTER 1 OF TITLE 8 OF THE ARROYO
GRANDE MUNICIPAL CODE AND BY ADDING SECTIONS 6 AND 7
THERETO RELATING TO THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Section 1 of Chapter 1 of Title 8 of the Arroyo Grande Municipal Code is amended
to read as follows:
Sec. 8-1.01. Adoption of Uniform Bui1din~ Code Volume 1.
For the purposes of regulating the erection, construction, enlargement, alteration,
repair, moving, removal, conversion, demolition, occupancy, equipment, use, height, area,
and maintenance of buildings and structures in the City, the issuance of permits, and
collection of fees therefor, and declaring and establishing fire districts, that certain
Code designated as the "Uniform Building Code", 1970 Edition, Volume I, published by
the International Conference of Building Officials, three (3) copies of which have been
filed for Use and examination by the public in the office of the City Clerk, is hereby
adopted by reference and made a part of this chapter as though set forth in this
chapter in full, subject, however, to the amendments, additions, and deletions set
forth in this chapter, and said Code shall be known as the Building Code for the City.
SECTION 2.
Section 2 of Chapter 1 of Title' 8 of the Arroyo Grande Municipal Code is amended
to read as follows:
Sec. 8-1.02. Amendments: Chapter 70.
Table No. 70-A and 70-B of Volume 1 of the Uniform Building Code above referred
to are amended to read as follows:

SECTION 3.
Section 6 is added to Chapter 1 of Title 8 of the Arroyo Grande Municipal Code to
read as follows:
Sec. 8-1.06. Buildin~ Official.
BUILDING OFFICIAL as used in this Title shall mean the Public Works Director of
the City of Arroyo Grande.

SECTION 4.
Section 7 is added to Chapter 1 of Title 8 of the Arroyo Grande Municipal Code to
read as follows:
Sec. 8-1.07. Retainin~ wall.
Section 7013 of Volume 1 of the Uniform Building Code is amended to provide for
the addition of sub-section (c) to read as follows:
(c) Any retaining wall located on the property line exceeding 16 inches in
height shall be constructed only of concrete or masonry.
SECTION 5.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect thirty (30) days after its passage,
and within fifteen (15) days after its passage it shall be published once, together with
the nameS of the Council Members voting thereon, in the Five Cities Times-Press-Recorder.
On motion of Councilwoman Thompson, seconded by Councilman Talley and on the
following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Schlegel, Thompson, Wood, Talley and Mayor Levine
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing ordinance was passed and adopted this 13th day of April, 1971.
