The City Council of the City of ~yo ~r~de d~es ordaim
as follow:
S~ON 1. Yt sh~i be u~a~ for a~ person., association
of persons or corporation to conduct or assist in co~ueting a~
public dances, public dance h~ls or d~c~ clubs in the City
of ~ro~ Grade ~thout first ha~ obtained a ~it~en pe~t
so to do from the City Council of~d City.
S~0~ 2. ~e pe~it referred to ~n Section 1 her~f sh~l
be issued ~y upon the ~itten applioatioa of ~e applie~t and
such application shall contain ~d set forth the forcing f~cts:
a. The n~e and residence of the applicant o~ applicants
prodded that if an applicant be a fi~, association or eorporati~
the n~es and residences of the parties cons~i~ti~ the s~e or
the n~es and residences of the officers a~ directors of an
associa2ion or corporation sh~l be set forth.
b. The specific place for which the pe~t is desir~ or
in which any~nce or d~ces are to be held.
c. ~e n~ber and the date of the d~ees to be .held u~er
said pe~it.

City Council is satisfied that the co~ue~ of such danoes, dan~e
halls or dance clubs ~11 not i~ter~ere~ the public welfare
and for that .purpose the said Oity ~uneil may ~a~d~ a~ fa~t
or e~dence bearing on the place wh~e,~aid p~e$~ public
dances, public dance h~ls or pubti~ d~e clubs is to be located
or baari~ upon the character and m~r~ fitness of t~se conducting
or assisting-in the conducting ~f such public dances, public dance
halls or public dancing clubs.
SECTION 4. it shall be the duty of the Chief of Police to
investigate and report to the City Council all facts and e~idence
bearing on the location of the public dan~s, danc®f~halle or
dancing club~, and the character, reputation and mor~l fitness of
those who w~ll be in charge.
SECTION 5. The City Council may by resolation from time to
time fix the fees to be charged for the issuance of any per. It
required under the provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION 6. Any permit issued under the provte~onsof this
ordinance may at any time be revoked by the City Council where in
the opinion of the said City Council the conduct of such public
dances, public dance halls and public dancing clubs £nte~with
the public welfare or where it is conducted in an illegal, improper
or disorderly manner.
SEOTION 7. Said City Council may from time to/ make rules
covering the operation and conduct of public dances, public dance
halls and public dancing clubs.
SECTION 8. a. For the purpose of this ordianance, a public
dance hall is defined t~ be a place where dancing is conducted for
profit and/or to which the public is a~mttSed w~herwith or without
charge.
b. For the purpose of this ordinance, the term
"public dances" is defined to be a gathering of persoms in or upon
any premie~swhere dancing is participated in as the main purpose for
such gathering and to which premises the public is admitted.
SECTION 9. This ordinance shall not apply to amy f~atermal
or social organization giving a dance for their mmabers to which
the public is not invited, nor to any dances given by any organization
or individual,the main purpose of which is to raise funds for charity.
SECTION 10. The City Council may from time to time by resolution,

limit the time, method and manner of conducting any pu~!ic dance,
public dance hall or public dancing club.
SECTION 11. Any person, firm, association or corporation
violating the provisions of tlxis ordinance shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor and upon conviction ti/creel, shall be fined the su~
of $_~__~_~ or impriso~for a period of ~'~ ~t~' 6r
by both such fine and imprisoment.
SECTION 12. Ail ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 13. This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force and effect thirty days after its final passage and before
the expiration of fifteen days after its passage it shall be published
at least once in the A~royo Grande Herald-Recorder, , newspaper of
general circulation, published and circulated in the City of Arroyo
Grande.
