RESOLUTION NO. 3847
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ARROYO GRANDE APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH
CAL TRANS FOR THE POSITIVE LOCATION OF
UNDERGROUND UTILITIES
WHEREAS, in order to facilitate the planning, design and construction of the State of
California, through its Department of Transportation ("Caltrans") projects and to ensure
the safety of the traveling public, the horizontal and vertical location and/or apparent
visual condition of underground utilities must periodically be confinned. These activities
and their results are known as "positive location', and are more commonly referred to as
"potholes". Such positive location operations include, but are not limited to; vacuum
extraction excavation, electronic detection, probing, external and internal video
operations; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans frequently requires the positive location of underground utilities
more expeditiously than the City can readily or economically provide; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans is willing to assume control of the operation and cost of such
positive location activities, with the cost of such activities apportioned as provided by
California law, Master Contracts between the parties or Caltrans' policies; and
WHEREAS, Caltrans has presented an agreement for funding and performing positive
locations of underground utilities within the City of Arroyo Grande.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arroyo
Grande that the Agreement for the positive location of underground utilities is hereby
approved and the Mayor and the Director of Administrative Services/City Clerk are
directed to sign the same on behalf of said City.
On motion of Council Member Costello, seconded by Council Member Arnold, and on
the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Costello, Arnold, Dickens, Guthrie and Mayor Ferrara
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 14111 day of June 2005.
