within its city limits and hosts three Farmer's Markets and also a community garden with over 23 plots
available for City residents to engage in urban agriculture; and
WHEREAS, public institutions play a vital role in providing leadership and setting an example in support of
a sustainable food supply; and
WHEREAS, Buying Local supports our local economy, keeps money circulating within our own community
and helps ensure food security by keeping local farms and ranches in production, fresh food Is healthier
and tastier and helps fight the obesity epidemic, and Buying Local may help us decrease our carbon
WHEREAS, October 24m is National Food Day, a nationwide celebration and a movement toward more
healthy, affordable, and sustainable food with the ultimate goal to strengthen and unify the food movement
in order to improve our nation's food policies.
